Been running god awful last few days mostly playing 220s. I've also been sitting a lot in the 200 and 300 regular speeds, as well as the 330 turbo, because the 220 lobby is often clogged with regulars.
It's alright. 4K downswing is quite standard at this level. I'm happy with playing with an edge in most of the games. Amazing how many times i lost 3-4 games in a row, or like 2-7, against players that are way beneath my skill level. Sometimes it's difficult to beat idiots that are basically trying to lose. Crazy game.
Boring to lose several games vs. idots that are playing any two OOP as well as raising, c-betting, and 2-barraling any two from position. I'm getting sick of the fundamental awfulnes and never ending BS when I run bad.
I mean, this is typically experienced players that simply are too stupid to ever learn poker. It's hilarious that every single one of them think they are solid players that deserves to beat the game.
Anyway, happy to get more experience at high stakes. I'm more confortable there now.
Back to the grind in 115s now. Will probably take 1-2 weeks to get even again. I'll probably play a ton 115s rest of september. So i'm going for a standard +5K month, even though I'm down 3K so far in august.
To boost my game a little bit i will buy 2 more Hokiegreg HU videos. In october I will be ready to take another shot in the 220s and 330s. Hopefully i will be an established and consistently winning 220-330 regular in a few months. This move up will be a tough process, but i can feel it.

Sucks to run like garbage right when you move up like that.
I saw you rematching some players that you might be better off not. Whether it's due to tilt, ego, whatever, that should probably stop. It may be that you think you have a longterm edge(which you very well might) but if your opponent is even slightly competent, there are most likely better spots then obsessively rematching this opponent who may have some leaks, but is still above avg. That is unless you believe your edge is indeed significant, or there is not much action in the games otherwise.
Like you stated in a previous post, you gotta think about the business side of the game!! Good luck!
Yes, youre right. I did rematch some guys that for sure are less skilled, but still might be a risky and maybe -ev match up when they winning and I'm losing. My downswing was like a typical downswing. Terrible luck, suboptimal play, and subobtimal game selection.
I remember 1 year ago when i experienced the same when I tried to move up to 115 permanently.
I think I'm pretty realistic and good to evaluate when I'm playing vs. less skilled players. And its nice to see that 70-80% of my match ups in the 230 are against players that i'm sure would have a tough time beating 115s. I'd expect most of the non-regulars in the 230 to be somewhat break even players or maybe marginal winners in the 115s. I obviously got more experience, insight and game skills in HU sngs than most of this guys. Moreover about 20% of the match ups in the 230s are vs fishy players that obviously any decent player got a decent edge against. So even though my first "permanent" move up to 230s failed, I'm still optimistic about it. Because I notice how much awfulnes that is happening there. I just gotta slightly improve my ways to exploit it and reduce some of my own awfulnes.
So my problem with the 200s now is not primary a game skill thing. The problem is to basically to handle variance and tilting. I mean, my game skills and business skills tend to drop from A-game to B-game when I experience a standard downswing.
But of course, a very slight improvment of game-skills will help a ton, because it's then less chance that I will experience big downswings and then it's less chance to drop from a A-game to B-game.
The hokiegreg HU videos helped a lot to to compleatly murder the 115s. I'm not one of the extreamly few people that are able to figure out how to get rich on poker on my own. I mean, I didnt even figure out how to significantly beat 6 dollars on my own, even tough i played not stop basically every day in a year.
However I am intelligent enough and motivated enough to learn from videos with good explonations about thought procesess. That is, the insight and understanding about what is going on "between the lines". Making sense of a players timing is a typical example of information that is between the lines. Making sense of and beeing aware of the timing was one of the important things that helped me to move up from 55s to 115s.
Hey,
I think i've played with you in a chess tournament some years ago or at least have seen u in a tournament...
Great to see an chess player successful in poker, I'm trying that myself :)
Good Luck,
Rafael
Pass the sugar... I warned you and offered a chop, but noooooo.
In any case, i'm sure you'll get back on your game soon. Gl in getting back to the 200s. Obv with droolers like me accidental regging you it shouldn't take to long.

thomas, 220 experience must of rattled you a bit....hope you take a break a clear your head a little...bad cards and losing to fishy players will add to the misery as well I bet.
GL..one losing month out of two years is not bad....at all...if it so happens to be..I've had 14 of them last 3.5 years.
Thomas searching.
Yeah, this month i've been running worse than ever, and as a result of that i've been playing worse than ever as well. Running bad leads to playing bad which leads to losing a lot money
. Most shocking is my 2K downswing in the 115s. Never ending losing strikes against retarded players.
I'll be back at pokerstrs in a week. Playing at FTP now, handle: endgamep. Nice with some change.
